31 Children’s Books for Black History Month

Hopes GiftIf you are a parent or teacher I hope that you are, or plan to share the wonderful discoveries and historical contributions that so many black men and women have shared with the world. February is the shortest month of the year, so we have to make the best of what has been given to us for “Black History Month”. 20180103_101813Teaching children about the not so shining moments of history in our world can be a challenge for many parents and shockingly some teachers. I think that it is a fear of saying the wrong “thing” or being insensitive to the struggles of injustice that have plagued black people in the world for so long.

I hope that I can help you today by sharing with you, 31 children’s books that are designed to teach children about the past and current successes that our world has achieved from black men and women.There is more to black history beyond ruby bridgesslavery. Black history includes stories of royalty, inventions, and discovery. Black history is World history and textbooks will never cover enough. It’s our jobs as teachers and parents to do that.
