Today is National Waffle Day and my family and I really enjoy a great stack of fluffy buttermilk waffles. There have been many evenings that I did not have any dinner ideas and waffles were a great go-to meal for my family to enjoy. We don’t assign waffles to breakfast and let me tell you, neither should you!
Here are three tasty and different ways that I easily prepare waffles at any time of day for my family.
The Waffle Cheese Burger idea came to my mind and kitchen one evening while I was preparing burgers for dinner. I didn’t remember to buy more buns and we were all out of bread. My daughter was literally asking for waffles for each meal, so waffles were the first thing that came to my mind as a substitute for hamburger buns and sandwich bread.

On this particular evening, I used my favorite frozen waffles because sometimes you just don’t feel like mixing up a ton of ingredients. The kids thought it all looked strange at first and even asked if they would have to use syrup. We skipped the syrup and used all of our favorite condiments such as mustard and ketchup. They were a hit! My husband and my daughter are the pickiest eaters and even they thought the switch up was delicious.
When I make our favorite Chicken and Waffles I like to use one of two different brands of waffle/pancake mixes. I’ve been rotating between the Great Value Gluten-Free brand and the Kodiak brand for a few years now. I always use real butter instead of oil and a few dashes of 100% vanilla extract to give both brands a real taste of homemade texture and taste. I make them using my Bella 8-in-1 Indoor Grill. We complement our waffles with a variety of high fructose free syrups. Log Cabin is one of our favorites and is fairly easy to find at most grocery stores.
Another waffle favorite for my family and me is a Waffle Breakfast Sandwich. I actually found this great idea on the Pillsbury website and I can assure you that it’s so delicious. We like to add bacon, eggs, and cheese to our breakfast sandwiches. It’s fun to make them in full sizes as well as in bite-size slider size. Waffle breakfast sandwiches also make great appetizers for parties or make-ahead meals on busy school days.
I hope that you and your family will enjoy one of these yummy waffle options today or very soon. Be sure to pin this post to Pinterest for one of those random nights that your dinner ideas are short or non-existent. I know I’ve had those days.
