5 Things That I Do When I Don’t Want To “Adult” for The Day

Some days I want to be lazy and do absolutely nothing at all, but I can’t. I have two little people depending on me to wake up every single day and take care of them. Adulting comes with some hard and exhausting days sometimes.

How do we cope and continue on when our spirit is willing, but our flesh is like nahhh, I’m staying in bed all day?

Here are five different things that I have started doing on the days that I do not want to “adult” for the day.

Some Things Can Wait.

I consider disinfecting surfaces, loading the dishwasher, and sweeping up crumbs as essential household chores. Other household chores such as laundry, organizing, dusting, and vacuuming can wait.

I’m not cooking!

Whatever the kids decide on for dinner it must be quick. If it’s something processed like chicken nuggets or hot dogs they have to eat a vegetable or fruit as a side item. This gives me peace of mind and my husband just wants the children happy and well-fed. I always keep a frozen pizza, a healthier version of chicken nuggets, and nitrate-free hot dogs on standby for quick weekday lunches or dinner. If they choose french fries they will likely get sweet potato fries or frozen fried okra.

Positivity yields good feelings.

I look for ways to make my kids smile or ways to make other people smile. My kids have become huge fans of board games. They get super excited when I initiate us playing one together. Our favorite games to play at this moment is Monopoly and Uno. I feel great after a funny text session with a friend or family member.

God can fix everything!

Praying just makes me feel better. When I don’t feel like adulting I ask God to help me make it to bedtime and I also ask him to give me more motivation for the next day.

Good rest helps all the time.

I can function really well with about 5.5-6 hours of sleep, but I feel like a winner with 7 or 8 hours of rest. Waking up more energized allows me to start my day earlier than everyone else in my home, it allows me to plan and strategize successfully to accomplish at least one task or goal on the next day.
