Happy Juneteenth!

Juneteenth is celebrated every year on June 19. On this day in 1865, black men, women, and children in Galveston, Tx were declared free from slavery.

Many people in cities aross the United States commemorate this monumental day with festivals, pageants, and educational programs.

Citizens and lawmakers in the United States are calling for Juneteenth to be recognized as a national holiday in all states across the country. Currently the only states that recognize Juneteenth as a national holiday are Hawaii, Montana, New York, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
