5 High Quality Styling Gels for Natural and Multi-Textured Hair

Now that it’s Spring it’s also starting to heat up quite a bit during the day for many of us, especially in the South.

Spring is the best time to start figuring out how you’re going to style or protect your natural hair texture and especially if you plan on spending a lot of time outdoors or near any type of water activities. I like for my 4B/C textured hair to withstand the humidity and I can’t do that without a good hair gel. Wetline Xtreme has been a go to favorite of mine for quite some time now, but over the last year I have tried a few brands that promise to be paraben free, silicone free, and just basically natural texture friendly.

What’s the benefit of using hair gel?

Natural hair textured people can achieve and maintain any hairstyle with leave-in creams, oils, and mousses, but hair gel gives the style a better finish.

  • Hair gels provide more definition for our styles.
  • They lock in all of the moisture that has been applied during styling.
  • Hair gels can help block humidity from penetrating the hair strands which will cause frizz and flyaways.
  • Hair gels can also provide a sleek finish for your edges, twists, or braids.

Pair your hair gel well!

Not all hair gels can be used with all leave-in conditioners and styling creams. To find the perfect gel and conditioner combination for your hair it may take a little trial and error. When mixed together your hair gel and conditioner should not leave any white clumps or beads.

This is not a good blend.

Use the back of your hand as a test. If the two blend seamlessly you have a winner. If they clump on your skin they will also clump on your hair.

This is a good blend.

What’s My Favorite In This Line Up?

I’ve been a fan of Wetline Xtreme for a long time, but after using all of these gels in my natural hair care regimen I realized that I like the Just for Me Curl Peace Slime Styler best. It doesn’t hold for days. In fact it’s so light I can apply a little everyday if I like. It smells clean and doesn’t cause any irritation. The bonus in me using this gel is that it also works on my daughters hair.
