How To Have “Date Night” With Your Spouse When You Don’t Have A Babysitter
December 1, 2021
Married couples need date nights and we need them often. I understand that sometimes it’s not easy to plan or execute a date night because of babysitter conflictions. My husband and I have found unique ways to make date night work for us when we don’t have a babysitter. If this is your dilemma I hope these examples will help you to start having more date nights with your spouse!

Have A After Dark Game Night
Put the kids to bed and have some fun together. Grab your favorite snacks and lock your bedroom door. If you worry about the kids listening just turn on a little upbeat music or a tv show. The kids will likely ignore that you are having fun. Here are a few adult games that you and your spouse may enjoy together.
Skip Work for The Day
Yes, my husband and I skip work sometimes while the kids are at school so that we can go out to a nice restaurant or a movie. Taking a day off to reconnect is much easier than asking for a sitter or hiring a sitter. This is also the perfect opportunity to transform your home briefly for a romantic date day inside. Turn the music up, laugh loudly, and have a really good time together.
Have An Outdoor Date Night
Head outdoors to enjoy your time alone as a couple. This will require one person to get the kids to bed while the other preps the outdoor space. Depending upon the season you can incorporate different ways to creatively entertain one another. Spring time dates outdoors can be so romantic. The flowers are blooming and mosquitos are not in full feast mode, making it a great way to have an outdoor picnic in your yard or a meal on your deck or patio. In the Summer a pool with illuminated water lights for a night swim together is fun. In the Fall and Winter a nice evening in front of a fire pit making smores is a great way to do something youthful and fun with one another. You can add wine and finger foods as well, but take precaution while drinking near a pool. Don’t forget to keep a close eye out for younger kids with the help of a indoor camera such as the Blink mini or a Nooie baby monitor. Here are few items that you may need to pull everything off perfectly.
Have a Movie Night
Put the kids to bed and enjoy a movie together. This is an opportunity for you to cuddle or settle down with a few laughs or ideas depending upon the movie that you watch. Don’t forget the snacks and movie candy.
There are so many different ways that you can have date night or day together without the help of a babysitter. Make dating a priority by marking it on your calendar and sticking to it often.

My husband and I enjoy a nice home cooked meal after the kids are in bed. We definitely have to get creative for at home date nights.
Great post! I needed this! With two toddlers it’s hard to find time and energy to work through the logistics to get out!
These are all great ideas. We had date nights like this a lot during the quarantine to keep our sanity.
Thanks for all these tips!
I’m so happy this will help.
Yes, I am so glad you found a way to escape and reconnect during a difficult time.
Same, and it makes it so much more meaningful.
since our kids are now teens, it is easier to get some time on our own.. but with work schedules it still ends up being a late night movie night at home 🙂
Thanks for these ideas! I love creating romantic settings at home when my child is asleep so my husband and I can relax 🙂
That’s awesome! It’s important to keep things romantic.
As long as you are finding a way to make it work for the both of you that’s all that matters.
