Tips to help you talk to your child about racism

Did you know that there is no such thing as race? God didn’t create a race. Yes, we had tribes, but many of them were comprised of various skin complexions and hair textures. He created mankind, people, humans, us. All of our complexions are particular. That’s what makes us beautiful and unique as people. There is no black or white race, only ethnicities. I can’t discuss the beliefs of other countries because it isn’t my experience. I can only tell you what I know about my country, America. America is a beautiful melting pot. The beauty of our differences should be explored and celebrated.

Race was created to cause a division among people. It has polluted the minds and actions of so many people, for so many years. To say that people do not see color is naive. People do see color and that’s simply inevitable for the human eye. Our children should be encouraged to see color and the differences that we all have, but they should be taught that our color doesn’t define our worth. Racism can end, but we have to start with ourselves. Children are not born hating or with any ideas of how to be racist. It’s a learned behavior. If you haven’t talked to your child about racism in America, it’s okay, but it’s probably time. Here are a few tips to help you get the conversation going in your home.
