The Pressure To Perform While Quarantined

I hope that you and your family are safe during our new normal, quarantine. Every day has become something interesting in our home and we literally figure things out as they happen. Cooking everyday is overrated, but I’m thankful that I can. Homeschooling my son is consistent and I’m happy that he’s still enjoying his assignments. I dread the thought of us still being safe at home during the summer months. I pray often that this all just stops. While we all take each day as it comes I want you to know that it’s okay if you are doing the bare minimum in each day

There is this pressure circulating in the media for us to make special use of all of this time at home. This quarantine has been stressful enough for many including myself without the added pressures from others that are only thinking of themselves. People that have gorged on fried donuts for 30 years all of sudden want to make others feel guilty for eating more than usual during quarantine.

The people that are now semi fat shaming have finally found their time to exercise and are literally shaming others. I read a post on Instagram that said, “if you don’t come out of this quarantine 30 lbs lighter than before what were you even doing during this entire time at home.” The stress and uncertainty of this quarantine will actually make some people eat more and for comfort. Instead of shaming others for not living like you “post” they should, we should all instead celebrate that we are alive and happy.

There is now a pressure for everyone to start a side hustle or business because of all this “spare time”. I fully support entrepreneurship and multiple streams of income, but what about the people that have zero income and are relying on unemployment? Should they spend all of their limited income on your $500 pyramid scheme or course? Of course not! Some people just want to get back to their normal 9-5 and live financially secure again.

Love Your Family and Take Each Day One Day at Time

If your are a parent, some days you may have just the right amount of energy to wake up, get dressed, and take care of your family. Some of you are learning to balance life while working from home, you may only be able to get a few things accomplished and non of those things include laundry, cleaning, or catching up with friends. If you are an essential worker, you may be exhausted and all you can think of doing at the end of your shift is showering and sitting still for hours at a time. Life looks different for all of us now. There is no mold for this new normal. None of us have experienced this world crisis. We are all learning everyday.

I want you to be in a good place mentally, spiritually, and physically. I want you to know that we will all overcome this disaster that we are living and we will appreciate our lives and others. This is not the time for you to force yourself to be someone that others think you should be or to read 10 books a week when you hate reading. Focus your days on what matters to you and those in your home. Be your own guide.
