I Stopped Being A Natural Hair Product Junkie My Hair Is Thriving and Yours Can Too

I love wearing my hair natural. I decided to embrace my hair sans relaxer almost 9 years ago. What I picked up from reading natural hair blogs, magazines, and from the advice of other women was that I would need to have a staple of products in my bathroom to maintain my natural hair. This was not necessary. I was a self-professed product junkie, but not anymore. I’ve slowly learned that my hair grows and thrives with just a few simple and inexpensive products.

I believe that healthy hair care begins with my health. Drinking an appropriate amount of water every day is great for flushing out toxins. A daily multivitamin will provide the proper nutrients for a healthy scalp and skin, therefore, aiding in actual hair growth. I believe that all-natural hair women have to find a regimen and products that work for them.

My regimen is simple. I shampoo my hair once a week using a medicated shampoo for my scalp dermatitis. I follow up with a deep conditioner or a hot oil treatment and sometimes I use both on the same day. When I wear my hair in its naturally curly texture I apply a leave-in conditioner that also happens to double as my styler. I always use a holding gel to style my hair in two-strand twists or a wash and go. When my hair is completely dry I use natural hair oil to seal in the moisture.

Just another wash day!

To maintain my style and to prevent my hair from breakage, I sleep on a satin pillowcase or in a silk bonnet. I apply only hair oil daily and I do not use a comb for daily styling. When I want to push my hair back from my face or wear a sleek ponytail, I use these large hair bands. They are wonderful for my thick bushy hair. I really don’t mind fly aways, but for a really smooth look, I like to use True Hydrating Edge Gel.

Natural hair is beautiful and easy to embrace when you find the style that works for you. My favorite low maintenance styles are two-strand twists worn as a protective style and a wash and go. This is how I achieve my wash and go using some of the products that I’ve shared in this post.

These two styles require less manipulation and help my hair to continue to grow. I hope that you will find a regimen and wonderful products that work for you. Remember this, if the product doesn’t satisfy you the first time stop using it and return it.
